School Identity acquire symbol of excellence award

The RAR (Recommended Agency Register) mark is a symbol of excellence for design companies in the UK.

There are 30,000+ design and marketing companies in the UK but only 360 have achieved RAR status. A company will only achieve this status after an independent evaluation by the RAR assessing body. The fact we have achieved RAR status is testament to the quality of our work and high level of service that you won’t find with a lot of other local companies.

RAR surveyed several of School Identity’s key clients and asked them what they think about us in five important areas:

  • Creativity and innovation
  • Account management
  • Value for money
  • Strategic thinking
  • Overall professionalism

Having scored well in every area, we were awarded Recommended Agency status. As the research was conducted confidentially with our clients we would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all those who took part.

Top 10 Tips For Building Your New School Website

Our Top Ten Tips are:

  • Start one small manageable area and then build gradually.
  • Keep it simple and accessible for all users, including those with special needs — see what you can achieve without being over-ambitious.
  • Use the functions that are unique to the web to make your pages easier to navigate and interesting to visitors — hyperlinks, graphics and small animations if they’re appropriate.
  • Remember your audience.
  • Enlist the help of others — children can take digital photos, for example, and write material for their own pages.
  • Invite feedback on how others view your offerings.
  • Review and update the site constantly — to ensure that you see your site as others see it.
  • Remember issues such as copyright, plagiarism, child safety and privacy.
  • Appoint a webkeeper to coordinate the efforts of everyone in the school and oversee the site’s content.

New Primary Curriculum Now Online

Primary School Curriculum Website

The primary curriculum is changing. Children’s learning needs to keep pace with our rapidly changing world. The curriculum is at the heart of government’s policies to raise standards and help all schools improve continuously. The new primary curriculum has been designed to prepare children for the opportunities and challenges they face in the 21st century.

The new curriculum is an integrated framework for learning. It provides breadth and balance as well as securing the fundamentals of literacy, numeracy and ICT capability. There is a strong emphasis on children’s personal development, including the development of learning and thinking skills, and personal, social and emotional skills.

The curriculum provides a powerful tool to tackle continuous schools improvement. It offers schools the flexibility to tailor learning to their children’s needs, interests and aspirations. The new curriculum recognises the importance of play-based and active learning in engaging children and helping them achieve a wide range of outcomes and make the best possible progress.

The Grange School Prospectus

The Grange School DVD

Project Details
After working closely with The Grange School on their staff handbook, we were asked to design their new prospectus. The brief was for the document to be a more interesting and flexible piece than just a standard prospectus, so we designed a ‘pack’ that would be flexible to use for many situations.

Instead of a standard brochure design we went for a folder, inserts and a DVD. The reason for this was that if information had to be changed, it would only mean changing one insert at a time instead of reprinting a whole prospectus. The DVD was a means of showing life at The Grange School through more than just a standard prospectus. The 3 minute video manages to encapsulate the brand of the school completely and is the next best thing to actually visiting the school.

The Grange School Brochure

The Grange School Brochure

Project Details
The Grange School is a caring community of children and adults working towards academic success and personal fulfilment. From nursery through to eleven years you provide a seamless educational progression with a happy atmosphere, where understanding, courtesy and recognition of the needs of others are encouraged.

They are very much a values based school and there was a need for them to communicate this to all your staff. There was currently nothing tangible that details these values and what The Grange School truly stands for. Their values lie at the very heart of the school but have never been communicated openly. There was now an opportunity to rectify this.

Our objective was to develop, design and deliver a School Values Brochure that was to be given to all staff. The brochure is engaging, memorable and impactful. It  also seamlessly integrates with the current brand. Our solution was to make the brochure very image heavy, this gave us a very direct route to communicate the key messaging. We also created the ‘think’ concept that headlines each page.

The Grange School Show

The Grange School

Project Details
We recently completed an end of year show programme for The Grange School in Daventry. The show is different from most school events due to it’s high production values and venue.

Our idea behind the design was to communicate the acts on show as being viewed in a school sketchbook. All the illustrations and fonts are hand drawn to give it an edgier bespoke effect. The final design conveys the thought process of the show’s director and excitement of the show itself.

This year it was held at The Castle in Wellingborough. The show was watched by 500 people and the programme and show were a huge success.

School Brand Identity

—
I have just been told that I have been appointed to brand another local school in Northampton. Work will include new logo, website and print materials. The official launch will be at the start of a new school year in September.

I’m really delighted at this news. It’s actually rather topical that state schools value their brand as the BBC ran a story recently about a surge in state school places.
